International training course on Molten Salt Reactors

Offered by: INSTN-CEA
M. Florent LEMONT
International training course on Molten Salt Reactors

About this course

Join experts and professionals from around the world for a comprehensive 4-day training course on Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs) — one of the most promising technologies in the next generation of nuclear power.

The training is delivered by leading specialists from renowned institutions such as CEA, Orano, CNRS, French universities and international specialists and experts, including the IAEA. They bring together cutting-edge research and operational experience. This unique expertise ensures high-level, up-to-date knowledge sharing and practical insights into MSR development and deployment.

Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs) are a class of advanced nuclear reactors that use liquid fuel — a mixture of fissile material dissolved in molten fluoride or  chloride salts. Unlike conventional reactors, MSRs operate at low pressure and high temperature, offering significant advantages in terms of safety, efficiency, and waste reduction. They are considered a key innovation for the future of clean and flexible nuclear energy.

The course gives opportunity to share knowledge with renowned experts and dive into the history, the future, and the scientific and technological aspects of MSR with respect to their nuclear safety, operation and maintenance, life cycle, and nuclear fuel cycle.

Key topics include:

– MSR Fundamentals and Technology Context;
– Feedback from Historical Reactors (ARE/MSRE);
– Current international trends and achievements for MSRs;
– Reactor Design, Control, and Instrumentation;
– Thermo-Hydraulics, Neutronics and coupling;
– Corrosion, Safety, and Redox Potential;
– Mechanics, modelisation and simulation;
– MSRs Nuclear Fuel Cycle.
